.....No program better represents New Mexico’s endless musical horizons than our Music in Schools program. Now in its eighth year, Music in Schools is designed to connect young people with many kinds of music. In a vibrant, meaningful, and lasting way, students are engaged through concerts, master classes, interactions with performers, and hands-on experience with a wide variety of instruments. Last season this growing program embraced preschool, elementary and high school students in Rio Rancho, and elementary students in Corrales and Jemez Pueblo. At the same time, Music in Schools began activity outside the traditional classroom in partnership with ARCA, a non-profit that provides sheltered employment. This program introducing music participation to employees at La Paloma greenhouses has been enthusiastically received – another facet of expanding musical horizons.
